Hello, I’m Laurie.
My father Dale was the son of a lumberjack and could build and fix anything. He taught me a love of DIY and we shared a special bond together, spending countless hours together working on projects — practical things like framing walls and wiring, and also fun things like giant wooden spinning wheels and custom-wired video game controllers and whatever other ideas his strange geek child dreamed up to tackle.
He taught me every skill he could, but sadly, our time together was cut short. He passed away in 2021 and I miss him every day. He was a gentle warrior, the engineer version of Winnie-the-Pooh, and the model of what a parent should be.
Out of everything, the most important lesson he gave me was to never stop learning new skills, and every time I finish a new project, I know I am honoring what he taught and I feel like the daughter of a true Klingon warrior.
I am the Daughter of Dale.
